SOMERSET
RENOVATION
MODERN REFRAME
Somerset is a charming neighborhood filled with mid-century homes, some of which have seen poorly planned additions and renovations. One such project involved a home with a modern boxy addition that clashed with the classic Cape Cod split-level design. This addition also left the beautiful backyard overlooked, with a windowless rear façade on the second-floor primary suite.
Upon entering, guests were met with an unused living room that led awkwardly to a poorly designed rear addition, which housed an open kitchen with limited storage and a lowered living space.
Our goal was to create a cohesive design that integrated the modern rear addition with the classic front of the house. We transformed the former living room into a home office and pantry, while opening up the foyer to create a stunning double-height space that connects all three levels.
On the second floor, we redesigned the layout to include two new bedrooms, a laundry area, and a luxurious primary suite, complete with floor-to-ceiling windows that bring in natural light and views of the previously neglected backyard.
We modernized the front façade for enhanced curb appeal and reconfigured the addition to feature expansive windows that invite views of the rear yard.
Throughout the home, we collaborated closely with Ella Scott Design to coordinate custom cabinetry and finishes, helping to create a contemporary yet warm atmosphere with clean lines and inviting details that elevate the overall aesthetic.
